This progressive, 3-week series lays the foundation of Iyengar Yoga and presents the basic postures and actions you will be taught in Level 1/Beginner’s classes. We encourage beginning students to take each online class live to connect directly with the teacher and to receive live-guidance therefore Beginner’s Series are not recorded.

B.K.S Iyengar writes in Light on Yoga (p.212): “Sarvangasana is the Mother of asanas. As a mother strives for harmony and happiness in the home, so this asana strives for harmony and happiness is the human system.”
On Mother’s Day, let’s gather together to cultivate a stronger, deeper, fuller connection to Sarvangasana, through the pathway of standing and seated asanas.

A Gentle Approach to Neck & Shoulders

Using two yoga belts, learn to create greater mobility in the shoulders as well as experience traction for the neck to get relief from tension in the neck and shoulders. Also have a mat, chair, blocks and blankets.

Laurie Blakeney – Guest Teacher Workshop

Laurie is an Advanced level CIYT, one of the most senior Iyengar teachers in the USA. She began her studies in 1971 and has persisted through a lifetime of learning and practicing Iyengar Yoga. Since 1983, Laurie has been taught directly by the Iyengars during annual trips to RIMYI. Her classes are fun and challenging; she supports her students intellectually and emotionally.

All Sessions will be recorded. Students will have access for 14 days following each session.

PENSIVE STABILITY
Fri, May 14 | 6:00-8:00pm
A class in the restorative mode of practice that will focus on the path and role of the breath. Inversions, supported supine poses and supported backbends prepare us for pranayama.

ENERGETIC ABILITY
Sat, May 15 | 9:00-11:00am
Can we transform our effort into effortlessness? This active mode of practice will include attention to budgeting our effects. Expect standing poses and other asanas that ignite vitality.

DELVE DEEP WITHIN
Sat, May 15 | 2:00-4:00pm
Engaging a more reflective mode of practice, this class will strive to turn our concentration inward to develop awareness and sensitivity . Expect deep work in twisting, forward bending, and seated asanas.

CONSCIOUS CONSOLIDATION
Sun, May 16 | 9:00-11:00am
Wake up to a bright morning practice that touches all modes and categories of poses. Let’s connect effort with knowledge to arrive at a sense of unity.
