Dear Friends in Yoga,
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” – Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York will not be silent: Black Lives Matter.
As a community, we take a stand for racial justice and equality. We mourn the tragic losses of countless Black human beings — losses that demonstrate centuries of the harmful legacy of white supremacy and privilege.
We go forward deeply humbled and motivated to do better, be better and take action as citizens, teachers, students and individuals. We are committed to examining ourselves, with Yoga as our guide, to root out the obstacles within ourselves and our communities toward the goal of a truly diverse and inclusive world. We recognize that we must be part of the change – part of the solution. We will share with you specific actions we plan to take in solidarity and support in the coming days. We acknowledge there is a long way to go, and we move forward with the wisdom and light of essential Yoga as our guide.
Sincerely,
Sharib Khan, President, Board of Directors
James Murphy, Association Director
Edward McKeaney, Executive Director
