Dan Coogan began practicing yoga in 2012, hoping to gain balance and flexibility to improve as a rock climber. He soon discovered the Iyengar method and the rigor, precision, and intellectual depth of the method immediately resonated with him. As he continued to explore the Iyengar method and his practice of yoga deepened and became more consistent, he began to understand yoga as a means to explore, understand, and challenge himself non-physically as well as physically. Dan continues his study of Iyengar yoga with his primary teachers, Institute faculties members James Murphy and Michelle LaRue. He made his first trip to Pune to study with the Iyengars in July 2018.
Dan completed the Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York’s Teacher Training Program in 2017 and became a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher in September 2018. As a teacher, Dan seeks to challenge his students with dynamic and physically demanding sequencing and with instruction that helps them better understand the alignment and effects of each pose.
Dan is a graduate of Bowdoin College, where he focused on ancient Greek philosophy, and the New York University School of Law.
