BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELECTION

Dear Member of the Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York:

As an IYAGNY Member, one of your essential roles is to vote for the Association’s Board of Directors. We hope you will be present at the 2017 IYAGNY Annual Members’ Meeting on Sunday, January 22, at 3:00pm to hear the results of the vote.

The meeting will be held at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York (150 West 22nd Street, 2nd Floor, New York City). Please use this ballot to cast your vote for the incoming Board of Directors. If you prefer, you may complete a Proxy Form to designate a proxy member to vote in your stead. Please return the ballot or proxy form to either the Brooklyn or Manhattan Institute by 12:00 noon on Friday, January 13.

Using this ballot, you may vote for all, some or none of the individuals listed below, each of who is standing for election to the Board for a two‐year term ending December 2019. All ballots must be received at the Institute by 12:00 noon on Friday, January 13. The election of Directors will only be valid if a quorum of the Members of the Association is represented in person or by proxy at the Annual Members’ Meeting.

KEVIN ALLEN

Kevin Allen has studied Iyengar Yoga since 2006. He’s been a faculty member of IYAGNY since 2014. Kevin enjoys sharing his knowledge of yoga with people outside of the yoga community and has volunteered to teach at schools and summer camps. In 2014, Kevin traveled to Pune, India for the first Yoganusasam. In 2016, he attended his first IYNAUS convention.
Kevin also works at WNYW Fox 5 in Manhattan, where he produces a nightly, local newscast. Kevin graduated from Dartmouth College with a BA in Government and currently serves as an Admissions Ambassador for the College.

MICHAEL KETRING

Michael Ketring has been General Counsel to the Alliance for Downtown New York, the non-profit corporation that manages the Downtown-Lower Manhattan Business Improvement District, since 2006. Mr. Ketring represents the Downtown Alliance on a broad range of legal areas including leases for office and field operations, contracts, agreements with various governmental entities, litigation, intellectual property matters, advice concerning legislative issues, and general corporate matters.
Prior to joining the Downtown Alliance, Mr. Ketring was Senior Development Counsel to the Battery Park City Authority where he specialized in real estate development, land use and environmental law, and public finance. Mr. Ketring was involved in a number of major development projects in Battery Park City including the New York Mercantile Exchange Headquarters, the Embassy Suites Hotel/Regal Cinemas complex, the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and Residences and the new headquarters for Goldman Sachs.

CAREN RABBINO

Caren Rabbino is the principal of Fast Forward Consulting, a practice specializing in strategic and operational planning for small and mid-sized organizations with substantial growth opportunity. Caren organized the inter-disciplinary workshop programming surrounding Matt Sanford’s engagement at the Institute.

GINNY SHUBERT

Virginia (Ginny) Shubert is a principal of Shubert Botein Policy Associates, a public policy consulting group. She has 25 years’ experience working as an attorney and policy analyst on housing, health and economic justice issues, and co-founded the nonprofit Housing Works, which works to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through advocacy, services and entrepreneurial businesses to support its efforts. Ginny began her study of Iyengar Yoga with Mary Dunn in 1987.

 
 
OUR MISSION

The Iyengar Yoga Association of Greater New York was formed by a dedicated and inspired group of teachers and practitioners in 1987 as a regional branch of the Iyengar Yoga National Association of the United States.

Our aims are threefold: to inspire and enable progressive lifetime learning and practice in the art, science, and philosophy of Iyengar Yoga; develop, nurture, and offer teaching of the highest standards; and build and support a community of practitioners within the four-state area of our charter: New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

CAREN RABBINO

JUDI FRIEDMAN

Judi is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher; she has been teaching since 2003. Judi is on the Faculty of the IYAGNY where she offers Special Series and Workshops, and teachers full-time – in group classes, workshops, and privately – in northern Westchester and Connecticut. Judi is a former corporate attorney, previously serving as Assistant General Counsel at Pitney Bowes, Inc., and Senior Counsel at Mitsubishi International Corporation. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from Tufts University and a J.D. from New York University School of Law. She has been honored to serve on the IYAGNY Board of Directors since 2012, most recently as Vice-President.

MIKE BRANSON

Mike trained as a linguist, spending the early part of his career in advertising, before moving into the world of branding & design in the late 80s joining the Michael Peters Group, one of the pioneers of the global design business.

He established Pearlfisher in 1992 and, as one of 3 founding partners, has steered Pearlfisher from fledgling start-up in London to global design leader over the past 20 years, developing some of the leading challenger and iconic brands such as Absolut, Ben & Jerry’s, Wolfgang Puck, Blue Bottle, Help Remedies – and most recently the development of the new IYAGNY identity.

As CEO of Pearlfisher New York since 2009, Mike leads Pearlfisher’s US business as well as continuing to work closely with his partners on the overall leadership and development of Pearlfisher as a whole.

Mike’s approach to leadership has been based on developing a highly creative and collaborative culture where exceptional people are empowered and inspired to do exceptional work. He is a good listener, thinks positively and his calm demeanor belies a fierce drive and determination to build a ground-breaking creative business and industry leader.

Mike is also a Trustee of Amantani – an innovative non-profit organization, working with disadvantaged children in the Peruvian Andes.

Mike has been a student of Iyengar Yoga for the past 10 years, visited Pune in December 2013 and lives in downtown NYC with his wife Rose (a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher) and their 2 cats, PM and Oolong.

KATE KARET

Kate is currently a graduate student studying for a master’s degree in health advocacy and policy from Sarah Lawrence College. Simultaneously, she has spent the past several years consulting a diverse array of clients on organizational structure, strategic positioning, brand personality, and communications. She is a proven, experienced team leader with expertise in operations, strategic counsel, integrated marketing communications, branding and media relations for consumer, corporate and non-profit clients.

Previously, Kate ran the New York office of Zeno Group as Managing Director, overseeing operations for New York and its growing roster of clients across consumer, health, corporate and technology. During her nearly 20-year PR career, Kate has counseled clients across diverse disciplines from the tourism industry including Expedia, Hyatt Hotels and the State of Illinois, to foundations and councils from The Wine Market Council, the Allstate and Sara Lee Foundations, to law firm Baker & McKenzie and healthcare giant Johnson & Johnson. Kate’s sweet spot is consumer marketing communications and she has worked with myriad consumer brands including Dixie, Quilted Northern, Quaker Rice Cakes, Life Cereal, Saran Wrap, Windex and Ziploc. She developed a program for Quaker Oats to do good for families via a partnership with Share Our Strength, which delivered thousands of Quaker Oats breakfasts to families in need. She helped Pepsi develop a multi-channel, consumer engagement to “refresh” its customer experience, helped OFF! position itself as a leader around West Nile Virus and SARS, and worked with Kelly Ripa to identify real-life child angels for Angel Soft bath tissue’s Angels in Action program.

Kate holds a degree in Economics from Barnard College, Columbia University. She is passionate about Iyengar Yoga, swimming, spinning, and travel. She lives in New York City with her husband, Jeff and importantly is mother to daughter, Lily, 11 and son Oliver, 9, and their bulldog Lady Legs Magoo.

TZAHI MOSKOVITZ

Tzahi discovered yoga between rehearsals early in his acting career. A friend urged him to take an Iyengar class and he was struck by its effects on his body and mind — it was a perfect fit. After completing the two-year Iyengar teacher training program at the NYC Iyengar Institute, Tzahi passed the Introductory 2 Assessment in 2012. He spent the month of July 2012 with the Iyengar family in Pune, India, and is now a certified Iyengar teacher. His primary teachers are Mary Dunn, James Murphy and Carrie Owerko. Renowned for his clarity and humor, he loves sharing yoga and enjoys observing his students make their own discoveries. Tzahi joined the Faculty of the Institute in June 2013.

KAPIL AGRAWAL

Kapil is an examiner focused on enforcement of the federal securities laws at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to joining the SEC, he was a visiting scientist at Princeton University where he conducted and published research on the modeling of chemical reactors. He previously worked as a trader for 11 years at various financial institutions. Kapil has been attending classes with Carrie Owerko at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of New York for the last 10 years. He is making his first trip to Pune, India, this year to participate in Yoganushasanam 2015.
